Around the time the pyramids were being built in Egypt, the
Norte Chico civilization in South America ruled dominant.
Pre-dating the Inca empire, this civilization encompassed part
of Peru. As you might guess, this means there are many ruins and
structures of interest in Peru. For those seeking fame,
adventure and fortune, checking out the ruins in Peru can be an
amazing adventure. While tourism wasn't an important part of the
country until the last decade of the 20th century, today the
country is becoming known as a great, economical place to
travel. Fishing and mining are still the main industries in
Peru, but Tourism is now a strong third.
Chan Chan Archaeological Zone
The largest Pre-Colombian city in South America, Chan Chan is
something you want to see with your own eyes, if you know what I
mean. When you see the area, it's easy to get lost in thought,
thinking about how far mankind has come over the years. If
you're a history buff or like really old things, the Chan Chan
Archaeological Zone is a must-see destination.
Lines and Geoglyphs of Nazca and Pampas de Jumana
If mystery and intrigue is your idea of fun, you're going to
have to make it to see the Nazca Lines in person - both from the
ground and from the air. It's going to cost some coin to see it
from the air, but there's very little that compares to the
experience. Be sure to bring your camera, although you're going
to be so awed by the scene, that you may forget to snap any
shots.
Historic centre of Lima
This is one of the prime destinations for tourists who come to
Peru. It's a mix of old world charm and modern shopping (and
dining) extravagance. There are also many museums where you can
see art going back hundreds of years. If you're a cultured
traveler who appreciates the finer things in life, Peru should
be on your list of little known destinations for high-culture.
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
Before the Inca, this was a special place on the planet. Today,
you can travel there and see why the ancients were so impressed
with the area. It's something to see. While some say the area is
being ruined by tourism, everything man-made pales in comparison
to the natural wonder of the area. That said, if you want to see
it - now's the time to go. In a few more years, it may be
entirely different.
History and Facts of Peru
Peru was part of the
original Inca Empire. That is, until 1533 when it was defeated
by Spanish conquistadors.
If you've ever heard of the
Nazca Lines - the super large drawings that are only visible
from the air - are in Peru.
The first female prime
minister in South America was elected in Peru in 2003.
The population of Peru is
roughly 28 million people.
If you're considering Peru as a destination, there's no
better time than the present. More and more people around the
world are looking to Peru as a home away from home for high-end
travelers. If you want to experience the wonder and magic of
Peru, it's better to not delay. While the country isn't going to
change dramatically, you may find that a trip there this year
costs considerably less than it will in a year or so.
